Hagkaup is a leading retail company offering a wide range of products for everyday needs, including groceries, cosmetics, and toys, alongside a strong selection of clothing, leisure products, and home goods. Hagkaup was founded in 1959 and initially operated as a mail-order business before opening its first store at Miklatorg in Reykjavík in 1967. In 1970, Hagkaup opened its store in Skeifan, which remains one of the company’s flagship locations to this day.
Hagkaup’s operations are deeply rooted in Icelandic society, having been an uninterrupted part of the country’s retail history for 67 years. The company’s guiding vision has always been to provide customers with a diverse product selection, convenient opening hours, and friendly service. Emphasis is placed on finding innovative ways to make everyday life more enjoyable, convenient, and simple.
Hagkaup employs an ambitious and dedicated team that is constantly searching for unique products to meet the ever-changing needs of customers. Innovative ideas are welcomed, and the company continuously works to develop solutions that enhance the customer experience.
Hagkaup operates seven stores, six in the capital area and one in Akureyri. Convenience and customer service are key priorities, and therefore two Hagkaup stores - Skeifan and Garðabær - are open 24 hours a day. In addition, Hagkaup operates a strong online store offering cosmetics, toys, party platters, and other specialty products, with fast and reliable delivery available throughout Iceland. Hagkaup also partners with Wolt for home delivery of groceries.
Hagkaup places strong emphasis on sustainability across all aspects of its operations and has set the objective of being a leader in this area.
