SMS is a leading retail company in the Faroe Islands, with roots dating back to 1977. The company operates eight Bónus discount grocery stores across the Faroe Islands, as well as the large retail store Miklagarður in Tórshavn, which offers both groceries and specialty products such as toys. Miklagarður also operates a meat processing facility for the SMS group. In Tórshavn, SMS runs four smaller grocery stores under the name Mylnan, and the company also operates a bakery and confectionery production facility for the group.

SMS is also involved in the operation of various specialty retail stores and services, both through its subsidiaries and associated companies. Most notably, the company operates the retail chains Rumbul and Sheep, which offer a variety of everyday products at competitive prices, with SMS holding a 60% ownership stake in these companies. Associated companies include the Burn fitness centres and the ice cream and dessert producer Omaná, in which SMS owns a 50% stake.

SMS is also active in other business areas, including the operation of the Faroe Islands’ largest shopping centre and several restaurants. Four of the restaurants are located within the shopping centre: Burger King, Sunset Boulevard, Sushi Daily, and Hornið. In addition, SMS operates two steakhouses under the Angus Steakhouse brand in Tórshavn and Klaksvík, as well as a Sunset Boulevard restaurant in Runavík.

SMS places particular emphasis on always offering customers affordable grocery options while continuously driving innovation in retail to ensure a positive customer experience.

SMS owns a diversified real estate portfolio comprising approximately 14,000 square metres, primarily used for the group’s own operations, with part of the portfolio leased to third parties.
